100 Days: Day 97

Studio 97Back to my gargoyle-Atlas. This character has created a debate in my previous. But we still don’t know who this guy really is. Now that I am looking at the detail and noticing grapes, I am starting to think that he could be Bacchus, also known as Dionysus – “the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and ecstasy in Greek mythology” (wiki). His face could be used as a decoration for, lets say, bars or clubs. This face appears on the buildings around NY without the body, so maybe he is not Atlas – “the primordial Titan who supported the heavens” (wiki), as Atlas would need at least shoulders or hands to support the building. Does anybody know? Reveal the mystery…
