Very exciting project, painting of a pile of fish (herring), as a representation of Gloucester city, is my current job to do during the residency. Prior to any painting it is always is a god idea to paint a sketch. I usually do little ones, no bigger then 8″x12″, but this time I decided to make a large one, size 22″x30″, very loose and quick painting of the fish. I like the way it came out, it looks like a complete work in my opinion, more like chinese ink painting.
Starting working on a large paper, two sheets of 90″x52″, I did my fast pencil drawing, just to know where my fish will be. I have put this blog in order to show the development of the painting. So, please see the images in order of them being photographed. Keep tuned, there is more to come, this works is not done yet. At one point of painting I took my paper outside and let the rain do it’s job. My idea was to let colors bleed and mix up a little, but since I did not have that much paint applied, effect was not visible.
When my paper was totally wet, I brought it under the tent and started painting on it using “wet on wet” technique.
