Our traditional visit to one of the larges and most important art fairs in the world – Armory show NY – has proved to be as usual very interesting.
We went to the both piers where we found contemporary and modern works of art, brought to New York from around the world.
I was excited to see a work of one of my most favorite artists Amish Kapoor first, I became aware of his works in Berlin last year and since then Mr. Kapoor is my inspiration.
“Untitled 2013”, Amish Kapoor, Lisson Gallery
It was also wonderful to see Ansem Kiefer and Gerchard Richter, exhibited by Galerie Thomas, Munich
“Für Paul Celan: Rutengänger”, 2005 – 2007, Ansem Kiefer, Galerie Thomas, Munich
“Grey”, 1974, Gerhard Richter, Galerie Thomas
I was trying to focus my attention to particular works, done on paper, since my paintings are also mostly done on watercolor paper (to see my works visit ekaterina-smirnova.com). I was pleasantly surprised to see many artworks that were done one paper or of paper. This is a nice tendency in my opinion, artists are interested in deferent textures and possibilities that only aper can offer. Starting from the Prints of the Pace gallery to such smaller and less known galleries were displaying such works. Here are detailed of some works that I found interesting:
“#7 Meander (from the series making paper)”, 2014, Monika Grzymala, Galerie Crone, Berlin
“Monsanto”, 2013, Alain Huck, Skopia Gallery
“Mexico”, Richard Serra, 2005
