When working on the stone and printing lithographs in the center of the paper it could be hard to have your colors aligned. You need a registration system.
Joe, has demonstrated for me one way of registration printing.
This simple looking wooden instrument is hand-made, but now you can find it in the stores as well. On the ends of the perpendicular pieces of wood, there are needles ( awls ), which meant to go trough the paper holes (in the middle of two sides) and fit to the tiny holes in the stone.
When the awls are in the both holes of the paper, Joe carefully lifts the other sides of the paper and transfers it to the litho stone.
Needles are fitting inside of the holes on the sides of the stone and keeping the print in exact place.
I thought it is a very efficient techniques. For 5 color print we were able to keep a very exact and lined up image.
