Ekaterina Smirnova, born in 1981, Novosibirsk, Russia, started her art education in art school in Siberia,1991. After moving to New York in 2006, became a member of the Art Students League of NY. Ekaterina’s watercolors strive to break the medium’s typical physical boundaries, overflowing onto 3 m tall rolls of paper, & revealing new possibilities. She paints with large hardware brushes on rough textured paper, splashes, sprays, & wipes. In all of her explorations, she seeks to move beyond established norms of watercolor. In her future goals Ekaterina is planning implementing electronics into her works, working in collaboration with scientists, musicians & engineers.
